In June 2024, Jakub Szmidt made his debut at Opera Wrocław, singing his first Mustafa in a new production of Rossini’s L’ italiana in Algeri. The Polish bass performed in his home country at Opera Bałtycka and Opera Śląska – his repertoire includes Don Fernando in Beethoven’s Fidelio, Serwacy in Miniuszko’s Verbum Nobile and Il commendatore in Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
Jakub Szmidt, was a member of Staatsoper Hannover’s International Opera Studio during the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons, drawing attention in production of Halévy’s La Juive, Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites, Puccini’s La bohème and Puccini’s Tosca as well as in Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Tchaikovsky’s Jewgeni Onegin and Verdi’s Aida and Otello as well as in Wagner’s Parsifal. Jakub Szmidt worked with directors Thorleifur Örn Arnarsson, Michael Thalke, Waldemar Zawodziński.
As a concert soloist, Jakub Szmidt has sung Bruckner’s Requiem, Kozłowski’s Requiem, Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Mozart’s Requiem. The young bass is a dedicted Lied recitalist. He was a guest artist at festivals including Bardzkie Lato Organowe, Festiwal Muzyki Polskiej w Krakowie and Legnickie Wieczory Organowe.
Jakub Szmidt was accompanied by bayerische Kammerphilharmonie, Filharmonia Koszalińska, Niedersächsisches Staatsorchester, Orkiestra Symfoniczna Filharmonii Częstochowskiej, Orkiestra Symfoniczna Filharmonii Podkarpackiej, Orkiestra Symfoniczna Filharmonii Pomorskiej, Orkiestra Symfoniczna Filharmonii Śląskiej, Orkiestra Symfoniczna Filharmonii Zabrzańskiej, Orkiestra Opery Bałtyckiej w Gdańsku as well as Orkiestra Opery Śląskiej w Bytomiu – under the baton of conductors inluding Giulio Cilona, Tomasz Chmiel, Sławomir Chrzanowski, James Hendry, Paweł Kapuła, Tadeusz Kozłowski, Andrea Sanguineti, Jarosław Shemet, Tomasz Tokarczyk and Maciej Tworek.
